Director's Note:
When I got the opportunity to potentially win a state competition for our tech program here at NCTC, I was determined to do just that. Going into this, I borrowed a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and rented a 6K as well as the Blazar Remus Anamorphic 33mm and 50mm for the most flexibility. I invested around $300 of my own money into this project to be sure we had the resources necessary to bring a quality film to this competition. That being said, I personally don't believe you have to have the "best" gear to put out a great film. It's mostly about the story and presentation. And also, I couldn't have done without our team (Kylie Baker, Lindsey Johnson, and Mya LaForce). OUR team stuck through the week and a half we had and were determined to put out something great. My teammates should absolutely be proud of themselves. I'm proud of them as well. The day of submissions, we ran into quite a few technical, banding, and export issues, so the judges saw the film in 720p, and we also had an issue with the volume being very low compared to my original timeline. The final version was meant to be seen in 4K, but with a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB of RAM, that can be a challenge at times. Patience was definitely needed during these times. Regardless of being second, we still placed, which is a milestone within itself for our program, which hadn't placed in years. We take from this a fun experience, a learning opportunity, trial and error, and memories made. We don't regret it, and we don't take it for granted. Thanks again to our team and all the support from our friends, class, and teachers from the beginning to the end, cheering us on and keeping us motivated. Much love.
